How alcohol-free drinks will penetrate the drinks market

Low and no-alcohol alternatives are more and more present on supermarket shelves and industrialists are becoming increasingly interested in them.

The new market study by IWSR, the agency specialised in the global market for alcoholic beverages, announces that the market for non-alcoholic and low-alcoholic beverages is expected to grow by 34% by 2024.

In Europe, the non-alcoholic market is growing exponentially every year. In France, the market grew by 20% between 2017 and 2018, by 30.5% between 2018 and 2019 and this does not stop in 2020. On the other side of the Channel, in two years, the volume sales of non-alcoholic spirits have increased by 169.7%.

While the alcoholic drinks market fell by 8% in 2020, largely due to the health crisis, consumers continued to turn to non-alcoholic drinks.

According to the IWSR, 76% of consumers of low-alcohol drinks also state that in 2021 they will continue to choose non-alcoholic drinks as much or even more regularly than they do now.

The growing demand for these alternative drinks is fully in line with the observed changes in consumption patterns, particularly in favor of healthier consumption. Indeed, non-alcoholic beers, wine or spirits are lower in calories than their alcoholic alternatives, and almost half (44%) of French people declare that they adopt a 100% healthy lifestyle. So natural or organic products have the same appeal and the range of non-alcoholic drinks is growing, to the great pleasure of consumers.
