From 15 to 17 May, Prowein 2022 took place in Dusseldorf after 2 years of postponement! (Its last edition took place in 2019). This show, until then the most important at the world level in the annual calendar of stakeholders in the wine sector, ended this year with a mixed results.

Let's go back to this edition where B&S Tech was of course present to meet its customers and be aware of the latest trends!

For us, 3 important points to remember from this session:

1. A half-hearted edition with a sharp drop in attendance: -38% compared to 2019, mainly due to foreign visitors who could not come due to health or political restrictions in their country (China, United States, Russia). In addition, the fact of having to postpone the event from March to May due to Covid also penalized the event since May arrives late in the season for winemakers. According to Alexandre Abellan's article in vitisphere, the feedback from exhibitors is therefore very mixed: https://www.vitisphere.com/actualite-96746--38-de-visiteurs-prowein-en-prend-pour-son-salon.html

2. The “no low” is gaining momentum: one of the trends that has emerged from Prowein is the development of alcohol-free offers. A trend more developed in our German neighbors and which therefore has a beautiful place in this event. The magazine wein.plus also cites several examples of highlighting this trend:

"Several presentations and tastings have been organized for this purpose. The Trendshow "Same but different" in Hall 7.0 was dedicated to the keywords "Mindful Drinking" and "Sober Curiosity «. Suppliers of non-alcoholic wines and spirits at ProWein came from Australia, Belgium, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and the Netherlands. They even presented, in addition to wines and sparkling wines, whiskey, gin and non-alcoholic aperitifs. »

Animations that confirm the potential of this new trend for the coming years! The producer UBY has understood this and highlights its 2 alcohol-free references (developed with the support of B&S Tech) in its ORGANIC range presented on its Prowein stand with a new label that helps its customers to better identify the specificities of each wine. A good way to meet the needs of all consumers.

3. Inflation and shortage of materials: the inflationary economic context affects the wine sector like many others at the beginning of 2022. This is an important concern that is of course mentioned in the aisles of the show. Producers and bottlers are particularly affected by the significant increase in the prices of dry materials (bottles, caps, labels, cartons, energy) when they manage to obtain supplies. A worrying subject because this increase will have to be passed on to the selling prices to consumers which may raise fears of a decline in wine sales over the coming months.
